Teaching
Joshua - Principles during Transition

VHC is in a period of transition
Joshua has principles for this period

Principle 1 - The gift of Holy Boredom
- The pain of change is less the pain of staying where you are
- There must be more than were I am

Principle 2 - New alignments
- New seasons bring new alignments
- Russ and Jo have been brought to this church
- Ephesians 4:11-12 - equiping (NKJV) - to align what has been put out of Joint as in verse 16
- We need to receive Russ and Jo.  Actively as in Philippians 2:29

Principle 3 - Recognize and Follow the Presence of God
- We need to listen to the voice of the Lord - moving beyond the familiar

Principle 4 - In can bring Pain
- In the midst of change, exposure and removal of what is required can occur - Joshua 5:2
- God is not concerned about us being weak.  His grace is shown in our weakness

Principle 5 - Letting go of the familiar
- God loves change; he is a pioneer, sending those who follow into the unfamiliar

Principle 6 - New form of provision
- God displays his grace in new ways - Joshua 5:12

Principle 7 - God will bring in a new strategy for warfare
- Isreal moved from the power of Moses to the warefare at Jerico

Understating the True Image of God - a look at the feminine
Gen 1:27
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Gen 2:18-23
And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."

Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he

would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.

So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a

helper comparable to him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and

closed up the flesh in its place.

Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: "This is

now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man."

God's Image - Encompasses the Masculine and Feminine, not in regards to gender, but attributes, attributes of God given to man,

unique to each person

Together there is strength, division brings weakness

Experiencing the fullness of both, allows us to be.  Allows us to receive, allows us to respond to God, allows us to respond to

others, to nurture, to rest.

Effects of the sin, Gen 3:1-7.
- Eyes were not open until they both ate
- Before, every desire and need was met, suddenly there were needs which were not met (nakedness), and there was a relationship with separation (they hid)

Relationship between Woman and the serpent, Gen 3:13-15.  There is now war against woman; she represents the feminine attributes, an expression of this curse.

Romans 8:14-16

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God

-We are adopted into God's family
-The opposite of adoption is fatherlessness

Central Event showing the example of God's love through Jesus
-Baptism - Matthew 3:16-17
- Jesus was fully man and fully God, one of the reasons we know he can fully identify with us
- The father proclaims "This is my Beloved son, in whom I am well pleased."
- this is the beginning of Jesus ministry - this is what God the father felt was important to say as Jesus started
- Jesus is identifying with man in this action - he did not need to be baptized but he did it to demonstrate his association with us

Matt 17:14-20

And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.  So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him."

Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me."

And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?"

So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
